Workshop Minutes

The Infrastructure Task Force meeting last week on the 24th was a success. We had about 50 people in attendance, Congresswoman Katie Porter did a great job as did the representatives from Congresswoman Michelle Steel’s office.
Our OC Chapter Board consists of me, Terance Jones, Dave Ortoff and Zachary Stangle. The department of the Navy and US Marine Corps are well represented.
We had our first planning session on Friday. Here are our priorities for the next 90 days:

A. Build an Easy Path to Certification: Through our recent meetings, it’s becoming clear that most Veteran business owners have no idea where to start for SDVOSB/DVBE certification. Our goal is to define the process and then have an easy navigation path through the USVBA website that will walk our Veterans through the process. We want to eliminate the need for tribal knowledge of the process. This is in keeping with both the mission and the vision of the USVBA.

B. Support the Driving Veterans Success Act: We will be supporting legislation in passing HR 6527 by July 2022 by doing the following:

- - - Creating a grassroots email campaign to provide DVBE’s and future DVBE’s with steps to take to help this bill get passed by congress.
    - Having Infrastructure Task Force meetings every other month.
    - Contacting senators and representatives for support after we get VFW and American Legion National support behind the bill.

C. Resume Chapter Meetings: We will be starting our chapter meetings again in April on the 3rd Thursday. We will be changing our cadence to every other month so that we can also get our members involved with the Infrastructure Task Force Meetings every other month on the 3rd Thursday. OC Chapter will be April, June, August, October, December. Task Force Meetings will be May, July, September, November. All will be at either the Tierney Center or AL 291. April 17th will be a hands-on workshop for developing a business plan, resume/bio/business profile writing.
